Amman: MRI scans performed in Jordan's public hospitals, under the Ministry of Health's plan to reduce waiting periods, saw a significant increase last September, preliminary results showed.
According to Jordan News Agency, performance indicators revealed that Jordan's public hospitals conducted 14,327 MRI scans last September, compared to a previous monthly average of 5,700 tests. This marks an increase of 8,627 scans. The Ministry of Health had initiated a comprehensive plan on September 1st to enhance the operational capacity of MRI machines, especially in hospitals with long waiting lists, such as Al-Bashir Hospital, Al Hussain New As Salt Hospital, Zarqa Government Hospital, Princess Basma Hospital, and Karak Government Hospital.
The initiative included extending working hours and adding evening shifts at key hospitals, including Al-Tutunji, Muath Bin Jabal, Ramtha, and Nadeem hospitals, as well as activating Saturday duty periods. Some hospitals also began MRI imaging as early as 6:00 a.m. to optimize capacity.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr. Ibrahim Badour noted that the first month of the plan resulted in an additional 7,000 MRI scans, bringing the total increase to 8,627. He emphasized the ministry's commitment to regular monitoring and assessment to ensure continued improvement in service levels and reduced waiting times. This strategy is part of a policy that prioritizes medical requests based on precise and prudent criteria.
The minister also mentioned that new instructions will be issued to regulate doctor-requested MRI scans, aiming to use resources optimally and provide services to deserving groups under clear guidelines.
