Irbid: The Water Diplomacy Center at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) recently hosted a meeting with a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The focus of the discussion was a regional readiness program aimed at climate change adaptation in the Levant and Iraq.
According to Jordan News Agency, the program's primary objectives are to enhance readiness for accessing climate finance, build institutional capacity, and prepare investment projects that bolster water security and climate resilience in countries including Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria. The meeting coincided with the second edition of the Water-Peace Dialogue Series, reflecting a broader commitment to regional cooperation in water resource management.
Participants from partner institutions across Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq explored ways to expand regional cooperation and develop collaborative investment strategies in climate adaptation and water security. They underscored the necessity of knowledge exchange, regional coordination, and joint mechanisms to facilitate climate finance access, improve water governance, and establish resilient water systems.
The Blue Peace Middle East initiative, a pioneering regional platform, unites countries such as Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, and Trkiye to foster cooperation in managing transboundary water resources. This initiative aims to enhance water, food, and energy security, protect ecosystems in the face of climate change, and use water as a medium for cooperation, trust-building, and peace.
The Water-Peace Dialogue Series provides a regional platform for policymakers, experts, international organizations, and academic institutions to address transboundary water issues, share expertise, and support partnerships that create innovative and sustainable solutions to water and climate challenges.
