Strasbourg: His Majesty King Abdullah II, during a meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, urged immediate action to de-escalate tensions in the region following Israel's attacks on Iran. The meeting took place at the seat of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where the King expressed concerns that the continuation of these attacks could lead to increased tensions and an expansion of the conflict.
According to Jordan News Agency, the King affirmed Jordan's readiness to maintain coordination with friendly and active partners to achieve comprehensive calm in the region, highlighting Europe's significant role in this pursuit. He reiterated Jordan's stance against allowing its territory to be used as a battleground for any conflict and emphasized the nation's commitment to safeguarding the security, stability, and safety of its citizens.
Discussions also addressed the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, with King Abdullah urging an immediate end to the war on Gaza, the provision of sufficient aid, and the cessation of escalations in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The King emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to create a political horizon for achieving just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
The meeting also highlighted the strong relations between Jordan and the EU and explored ways to enhance the strategic partnership. King Abdullah expressed his appreciation to President Metsola for her efforts to strengthen relations between Jordan and the EU and her endeavors to achieve stability in the Middle East.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan's Ambassador to Belgium and Head of the Kingdom's Delegation to the EU Yousef Bataineh.
