London: His Majesty King Abdullah II met with United Kingdom Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in London on Monday, according to a royal court statement. The meeting, held at 10 Downing Street and attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, focused on the enduring ties between Jordan and the UK, with an emphasis on enhancing cooperation in sectors such as economic, investment, and technology.
According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions included the importance of reinforcing joint efforts in defence and military domains to support regional stability. His Majesty praised the UK for hosting the latest round of the Aqaba Process initiative, scheduled to occur on Tuesday. The King underscored the UK's significant role in resolving regional conflicts and achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
In addressing regional developments, His Majesty reiterated Jordan's opposition to Israeli actions aimed at expanding settlements and asserting sovereignty over the West Bank. He also emphasized the necessity of implementing the agreement to end the conflict in Gaza and facilitating the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid throughout the Strip. The King called for support of Syria's efforts to maintain its security, stability, and sovereignty.
Prime Minister Starmer highlighted the significance of the UK-Jordan partnership in striving for regional stability, expressing the UK's commitment to expanding bilateral relations in various domains. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Jordan's Ambassador to the UK Manar Dabbas.
