Amman: Minister of Labor Khaled Bakar emphasized on Tuesday that recruiting Jordanians at companies operating in the Attarat site in southern Jordan is a "key priority" for the ministry. This statement was made during a meeting in his office with Attarat Power Company (APCO) CEO Jason Pok, which was also attended by Secretary General Abdulhalim Dujan. Bakar urged all subcontractors involved in the project to prioritize the hiring of Jordanians.
According to Jordan News Agency, Bakar also highlighted that approvals for employing non-Jordanian workers will be restricted to roles requiring specialized skills that are not available within the local workforce. This approach aims to ensure that the majority of employment opportunities benefit Jordanian citizens.
In their discussions, the minister and APCO officials reached an agreement to guarantee that any new subcontractors awarded tenders at the project site will focus on hiring Jordanians. They stressed the importance of ongoing follow-up to ensure adherence to this commitment, highlighting the ministry's dedication to enhancing local employment.
Looking ahead, Bakar directed the ministry's central inspection and labor relations directorates to increase monitoring of companies operating at the Attarat site. This measure is intended to ensure compliance with the employment guidelines, particularly in scenarios where subcontractors are replaced. This initiative underscores the ministry's commitment to creating more job opportunities for Jordanians.
The meeting was also attended by several officials from Attarat Power Company, as well as Haitham Najdawi, Director of the Inspection Directorate, and Adnan Dahamsheh, Director of the Ministry's Labor Relations Directorate. Their presence signifies the collaborative effort between various stakeholders to promote local employment at the Attarat site.
