Madaba: Madaba Water Directorate Director Mufid Al-Louzi announced a significant stride in wastewater management with the approval of a £25 million grant. This grant is a portion of a broader £123 million initiative designed to enhance the Madaba wastewater treatment plant and upgrade sewage networks in the governorate.
According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Louzi highlighted that the project financing follows the Cabinet's recent approval of a grant agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD), funded by the European Union. The remaining project costs are supported through loans from AFD and the German Development Bank (KfW), amounting to £97 million. The project encompasses the expansion of sewage networks, upgrading of the treatment plant, and the construction of transmission lines to facilitate the reuse of treated water for agriculture.
Al-Louzi stated that the implementation is anticipated to commence in the first quarter of the upcoming year, with a projected duration of three years. The project is expected to benefit approximately 200,000 residents by establishing a new treatment facility capable of processing 16,000 cubic meters per day. Additionally, it will focus on expanding and rehabilitating existing sewage networks and enhancing the reuse of treated water in restricted agricultural applications, such as fodder crops.
The initiative aims to improve wastewater management, bolster environmental protection, and increase the reuse of treated water, ultimately alleviating pressure on natural water resources.
