Kuala lumpur: Malaysian statesman and former prime minister Mahathir Mohamed condemned Israel's blockade of aid into the Gaza Strip, stating that humanity has descended to the level of savages.
According to Anadolu Agency, Mahathir expressed his views on the platform X, highlighting that since October 2023, "70,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed by the Israelis," despite a ceasefire that was reached over two months ago. He criticized the ongoing violence, stating that killings continue even during the ceasefire.
Mahathir further condemned the obstruction of essential supplies, noting that "medicine and food to Gaza" are being blocked, and "even the doctors are being blocked from entering Gaza" to provide care to the sick and wounded in hospitals destroyed by what he described as "Israeli savages." He emphasized that the world is witnessing these actions unfold.
He lamented the current state of humanity, stating, "Humanity cannot claim to be civilised. We have descended to the level of savages. We see gross injustice, massacres, murders unlimited and we do nothing."
The blockade includes a ban on 37 humanitarian organizations from operating in Gaza due to non-compliance with new registration rules. This decision has sparked criticism from relief agencies, which argue that the ban, effective from Jan. 1, will adversely impact the enclave's population, which is in dire need of aid.
