Amman: Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, inaugurated the new headquarters of the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (Intaj).
According to Jordan News Agency, the minister emphasized the significance of the information and communication technology sector as a driver of economic growth. He highlighted the government's commitment to this industry, emphasizing its role in the Economic Modernization Vision aimed at empowering the Kingdom's private sector across various fields.
The minister outlined an ambitious plan to expand the ICT job market significantly, with a target to increase positions from the current 45,000 to 101,000 by 2033. Additionally, there is a goal to enhance the sector's contribution to the gross domestic product from JD2.9 billion to JD4.2 billion. He explained that the government is enacting measures to support digitization and digital transformation and will prioritize Jordanian companies in its digital initiatives.
Furthermore, the minister discussed ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship, aiming to create an environment conducive to youth and innovators becoming job creators. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster innovation and economic development in Jordan.
In response, Eid Sweis, Intaj Chairman, stated that the association is undergoing a comprehensive review of its corporate identity, operating mechanisms, and readiness to tackle future challenges. Sweis noted that Intaj has concentrated on three main areas recently, including reassessing its strategic goals, enhancing governance both internally and externally, and expanding its membership base by over 23% within three years.
