Amman: Ministers of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khreisat, and Environment, Dr. Ayman Suleiman, toured the Permanent Exhibition of Badia and Rural Products project to assess the construction progress of its facilities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the project is funded by the Badia Rehabilitation/Environmental Compensation Programme and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). During the visit, the ministers, accompanied by UNDP Resident Representative Randa Abu Al-Hassan, evaluated the exhibition venues and the progress of construction work and equipment installation.
The exhibition facility is designed with green building specifications, incorporating renewable energy, graywater reuse, and recycling of non-hazardous waste to cater to the needs of people with disabilities. UNDP representatives briefed the ministers on the project's implementation phases and the use of green building standards.
The ministers commended the construction procedures, emphasizing their alignment with Jordanian heritage and their potential to benefit underprivileged rural and desert communities by creating job opportunities. They noted that the project aims to enhance the income of productive families, address surplus cooperative products, and improve the economic conditions of cooperatives and households. It also aims to support home production, market local products, and connect with larger markets.
They urged the swift completion of the project to support Jordan's rural and desert communities and facilitate sustainable economic, environmental, and social development in accordance with the Economic Modernization Vision. The exhibition, situated on an 8-dunam plot owned by the Ministry of Agriculture, includes training halls, product display areas, shops, gardens, children's playgrounds, parking lots, and restaurants.
