Amman: The Ministry of Justice has announced the successful conduction of approximately 138,612 remote trials during the year 2024. This initiative is part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to modernize its operations by automating services and establishing new judicial facilities to meet the growing demands of society and population dynamics.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Ministry of Justice is actively working on clear and defined tasks aimed at enhancing logistical and technical support for the judiciary. These tasks include formulating modern policies and legislative frameworks, providing legal support, collaborating with local and international entities, safeguarding human rights, and protecting public funds.
In 2024, the ministry took significant steps to ensure the efficiency of remote trials by installing and distributing video communication devices across 25 halls. This setup benefited an additional nine halls in the courts of first instance and 16 others in correctional and rehabilitation centers, facilitating the accelerated processing of inmates' testimonies.
The ministry implemented approximately 3,693 alternative penalties and installed around 149 e-bracelets. These measures are designed to reduce the financial burden on inmates in correctional and rehabilitation centers, decrease the number of detainees, and cut government expenses, while also advancing the Kingdom's criminal justice system and minimizing detainees' interactions with convicts to maintain their livelihood sources.
Furthermore, the ministry conducted around 6,955 e-auctions in 2024, aiming to boost transparency and integrity by attracting the maximum number of bidders and securing the highest prices for properties sold at public auctions, thereby protecting civilian rights.
Additionally, a total of about 2,489 legal aid requests were submitted, ensuring legal representation across various courts in accordance with existing legislation. The ministry also issued approximately 495,747 certificates of non-criminal record, including 35,804 in English.
At the close of the previous year, the ministry launched a pilot version of its new e-services website. This platform aims to enhance numerous services related to inquiries, civil litigation, Administrative Court, civil enforcement, legal aid, e-payment, and notary public. Under this initiative, a total of 46 services were introduced, comprising 25 new and 21 improved services.
