Amman:First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House, Khamis Atieh, participated in a coordination meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Group, preparing for the upcoming 153rd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly and the 218th Session of the Governing Council in Tanzania.
According to Jordan News Agency, Atieh and Arab delegates engaged in discussions to align on agenda items and to reach consensus on emergency proposals for the assembly. The meeting included presentations from candidates vying for the IPU presidency, representing Azerbaijan, Chile, and Australia.
Hamda Sulaiti, Deputy Speaker of the Qatari Shura Council and Arab representative on the IPU Executive Committee, provided a report detailing the committee's activities since the last IPU assembly. This was followed by discussions in which delegates established a unified Arab stance on the presidential candidates.
Atieh emphasized the significance of Arab parliamentary unity and the influential role of the IPU presidency in fostering international legislative collaboration on pressing global matters.
In separate meetings, Atieh conversed with Milton Dick, Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives and IPU presidential candidate, about enhancing parliamentary ties. Dick praised the Jordanian House of Representatives for its dedication to cooperative parliamentary efforts and noted the common goals shared by Australian and Arab parliaments.
Atieh reaffirmed Jordan's dedication to Arab parliamentary collaboration and the consensus achieved by the group.
