Minister of Social Development, Ayman Mufleh, on Sunday inaugurated a high-profile meeting to discuss the 2nd Arab Multidimensional Poverty Report, held on the sidelines of the 77th session of the executive office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs (CAMSA), headed by Jordan.

Mufleh , who is also Head of CAMSA executive office, said the discussions aim to update the second poverty report, and its role in developing practical and innovative scientific frameworks, and tools to integrate social, economic, political and environmental policies to eliminate poverty in all its dimensions, taking into account the challenges facing the Arab region.

Mufleh noted the report-based update provides experts with the opportunity to address loopholes in the educational, economic and social dimensions, and enhance efforts to eradicate multidimensional poverty and measure its indicators.

In addition, he said this update coincides with Arab countries’ steps to outline voluntary reports for sustainable development 2030, focusing on the goal related to poverty eradication in all its forms.

Jordan’s government, along with all its partners, is making “great” efforts to reduce multidimensional poverty, whether in terms of aligning public development policies, or special programs aimed at reducing poverty and increasing social solidarity.

In this regard, he referred to the government’s move to launch National Social Protection Strategy for 2019-2025, whose work is based on three main axes aimed to ensure decent work and social security as well as social assistance and services.

The minister also said continued difficult conditions in the Arab region due to Covid-19 pandemic and repercussions of Ukrainian crisis on energy prices, main commodities and food security in many parts of the world, requires strengthening Arab efforts to reduce these hardships.

Jordan, he noted, worked in this field to prepare 2021-2030 National Strategy for Food Security, to make the Kingdom a regional center for food security.
