Nawaiseh: Jordan to Implement ‘New Strategic’ Media Plan for 2025-2028

Amman: The Ministry of Government Communication on Wednesday held an educational symposium on "Media and Information Literacy," attended by a number of public employees from the ministries of finance, local administration, and industry.

According to Jordan News Agency, during the opening ceremony, the Ministry's Secretary-General, Dr. Zaid Nawaiseh, stated that the event is part of a series of activities targeting Jordan's ministries, government departments, media students at universities, and media spokespeople. The symposium aims to disseminate the principles and skills of media and information literacy, highlighting its importance in protecting society against rumors and disinformation campaigns, and providing accurate media narratives.

Dr. Nawaiseh noted the declining influence of traditional media, attributing it to the rapid emergence of digital media and artificial intelligence technologies, which have contributed to global challenges with false narratives. He pointed out that recent regional tensions have led to the spread of false and misleading news about Jordan, distributed via video and artificial intelligence technologies.

The government has developed a strategic program for media education for 2020-2023, featuring executive plans for teaching media education courses. This initiative targets school and university students in Jordan, and offers programs for public sector employees and members of society.

Furthermore, Dr. Nawaiseh announced the formation of a national team by the government, led by the Minister of Government Communication in cooperation with the Jordan Media Institute, to implement the new strategic plan for 2025-2028. This plan aims to address gaps identified in the previous phase.
