Aqaba: The new passenger terminal headquarters at Durra Border Crossing in southern Aqaba governorate was inaugurated on Wednesday. This marks a significant development in the region's border management and security practices.
According to Jordan News Agency, the inauguration is a result of the project titled "Strengthening Border Management and Security Practices at Entry Points within Aqaba Governorate." This project was implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and funded by Global Affairs Canada. The event saw the presence of several dignitaries including Shadi Majali, Chairman of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Brig. Gen. Saed Qatawneh, Director of the Residency and Borders Department, and Hussein Safadi, CEO of the Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC), among others.
The project represents a collaborative effort between the Jordanian and Canadian governments, in partnership with IOM, to bolster border security and improve police and service systems. It aims to provide the necessary infrastructure and modern technical capabilities to facilitate passenger movement and boost commercial and economic activities in the region.
The newly inaugurated facility hosts several halls and offices that adhere to international specifications and standards. These improvements aim to streamline travel procedures and goods movement by incorporating systems designed to enhance efficiency and expedite transaction completion.
