Amman: The National Guidance, Media and Culture Parliamentary Committee, in conjunction with the Irada and Islamic National parliamentary blocs, has issued a strong condemnation of the recent killing of journalists Anas Al-Sharif and Muhammad Qreiqa by Israeli forces. They have called for immediate international intervention to hold those responsible accountable and to ensure the safety of journalists.
According to Jordan News Agency, the parliamentary committees have characterized the targeting of journalists as a deliberate tactic by Israeli forces to obscure their activities. This act is perceived as a precursor to an impending assault on Gaza, aiming to obliterate the remaining evidence of ethnic cleansing and genocide against Palestinians.
The committees have declared the occupation fully liable for these actions, emphasizing that a lack of accountability only perpetuates the cycle of violence against civilians and journalists. They have urged international bodies, including the UN Security Council and the International Criminal Court, to prosecute these actions as international crimes and to bring the leaders responsible to justice.
The call to action includes urging Arab and international media organizations and journalists' unions to voice their opposition, form a united media front against Israeli narratives, and report the truth from the field.
Furthermore, the parliamentary bloc highlighted that the targeting of journalists signifies a continued and calculated strategy of suppression by Israeli forces to conceal their actions against defenseless civilians and manipulate public perception.
The committees have appealed to the international community, the United Nations, and human rights organizations to implement immediate measures to halt these crimes, ensure accountability, and provide full protection for journalists and media outlets, as well as safeguarding the Palestinian population from ongoing violence.
In a separate statement, the Jordanian Agricultural Engineers Association also condemned the assassination of journalists in Gaza, viewing it as part of a broader pattern of violence and oppression by Israeli forces. The association reiterated that attempts to silence journalists will not suppress the pursuit of justice.
