Petra: Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) on Monday hosted a workshop on climate change and its impact on the archaeological and tourist area in the ancient city of Petra, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), represented by Dr. Nidal Al-Ouran. Speaking at the event, PDTRA Infrastructure and Investment Commissioner, Mohammad Habahbeh, emphasized the challenges posed by climate change to the Petra region and the necessity for joint efforts to mitigate these effects to preserve the Kingdom's global cultural heritage. According to Jordan News Agency, Director of PDTRA Risk Center, Dr. Hussein Hasanat, highlighted how climate change is contributing to an increase in the frequency of natural disasters, presenting potential threats to the region's infrastructure and natural resources. The workshop, attended by experts in environment and climate change fields, reviewed the latest studies and research on climate change's effects on the Petra region, offering various solutions and proposals to adapt to this pressing issue. The event concluded with participants stressing the importance of collaboration among the public and private sectors and civil society to protect Petra from climate change. They underscored the necessity of ensuring the sustainability of this archaeological and tourist site for future generations.
