Petra Authority Rehabilitates 223 Dunums to Plant Juniper Trees

Petra: Chief Commissioner of Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Faris Breizat announced the rehabilitation of an area estimated at 223 dunums to restore juniper trees in the region, in cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

According to Jordan News Agency, Breizat stated that this initiative is part of broader efforts to revive the region's natural ecosystems, which have been significantly affected by climate change. For the first time in the Kingdom, juniper trees are being planted in their original natural habitat within the southern Petra region.

The project is in its initial phase with an aim to plant 700 juniper saplings. Breizat emphasized that this initiative is part of national efforts to protect biodiversity and enhance the resilience of ecosystems to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Discussing the long-term goals of the project, Breizat pointed out that it contributes to achieving environmental sustainability and preserving Petra's natural heritage. This commitment reflects the authority's dedication to implementing sustainable environmental programs.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the project exemplifies effective cooperation between the PDTRA and specialized global organizations, which is crucial for protecting and conserving natural resources for future generations.
