Aqaba: The Jordan Phosphate Mines Company/Industrial Complex, in cooperation with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), conducted a mock drill simulating an ammonia gas leak as part of its scheduled annual training plan for 2025.

According to Jordan News Agency, Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety at ASEZA, Nidal Awawrah, stated that human and environmental safety remains a strategic priority for the Authority. He emphasized the importance of building effective partnerships with various stakeholders in both public and private sectors to ensure the highest levels of safety and environmental sustainability in the special economic zone.

Director of the Environment Protection and Sustainability Directorate at ASEZA, Taghreed Maaytah, explained that the drill, attended by representatives of relevant authorities and security agencies in Aqaba, is part of a series of pre-planned field exercises. These exercises aim to assess the readiness of companies in the southern industrial zone to handle hazardous material incidents and test the effectiveness of emergency response, evacuation plans, and rapid response capabilities.

Director of the Industrial Complex, Abdul Aziz Arakzah, noted that the exercise is part of a sustainable collaborative approach adopted by the complex in coordination with relevant authorities to enhance public safety procedures and boost preparedness for various emergencies. He mentioned that staff undergo realistic, specialized training to ensure rapid response and coordinated action in line with international best practices.
