Amman: Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has launched the Amra City project, a groundbreaking initiative representing a new urban development model designed to accommodate population growth while adhering to modernity and sustainability standards. The project is expected to create significant investment and economic opportunities.
According to Jordan News Agency, the Amra City project is envisioned as a future model city for the youth and future generations, with development phases extending over 25 years. This initiative was set in motion following a directive from His Majesty King Abdullah II, aiming to reduce the pressure on Amman and Zarqa by fostering partnerships with the private sector and aligning with economic modernization goals.
During his visit to the Amra City site, Prime Minister Hassan reviewed the initial phase, which will cover 40,000 dunums out of a total 500,000 dunums. The Jordanian Company for Developing Cities and Facilities will manage the project, with work commencing early next year and continuing until 2029.
Amra City is designed not as a new capital but to address the growing population needs of Jordan, particularly in Amman and Zarqa, where the population is projected to reach 11 million over the next 25 years. The project sets out land uses across various sectors, including investment, education, commerce, and tourism, in a sustainable manner.
The city will incorporate modern housing and services, leveraging clean energy, public transport, and technological advancements. An advisory board comprising young professionals in various fields will guide the project, ensuring its alignment with sustainability and innovation.
The first phase will feature an international exhibition center, a sports city with an international football stadium, an Olympic complex, and an environmental park, among other facilities. These developments will be funded through local and international investments on state-owned land.
Preliminary studies indicate that the project will generate thousands of jobs and stimulate growth in sectors like construction, trade, and tourism. The Amra City project will eventually connect to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, enhancing its role as a hub for living, work, and transport.
The project's strategic location on international highways and proximity to major cities and the airport further enhances its potential. Additionally, a portion of the land will be allocated to the Jordan Armed Forces for infrastructure development.
In conjunction with the project launch, 20,000 dunums of adjacent state-owned land have been allocated for housing development, benefiting employees, retirees, and local residents.
