Population council launches national plan on reproductive health

The Higher Population Council (HPC) Monday launched a national plan to implement Jordan’s commitments to the 2019 Nairobi Summit and the International Conference on Population and Development under the slogan “Accelerating the Promise – for the years 2021-2030” with the support of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Secretary General of the HPC Issa Masarwe said that the national plan, based on statistics from the relevant institutions, addresses the reproductive and sexual health challenges that the Jordanian society faces, and the 12 commitments the Kingdom undertook following the Nairobi summit.

The plan, he notes, highlights the population in Jordan and the demographic, social and economic conditions, with a specific focus on reproductive and sexual health issues.

For her part, Layali Abu Sir, Director of Population and Development Programs at the UNFPA, pointed out that the Nairobi summit aimed at drawing up a roadmap on how to advance efforts to achieve justice for women and young girls, stressing the importance of “leaving no one behind” and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
