Prices of 21-karat gold, the highest demand at the local market, stood on Saturday at JD53.20 per gram as a purchasing price, against JD55.20 as a selling price. According to Jordan Jewelers Association's Secretary General, Ribhy Allan, the price of 24-karat and 18-karat gold amounted to JD63.40 and JD49.30 respectively. The price of a Rashadi lira, weighing seven grams, stood at JD387, while an English lira, which weighs eight grams, reached JD440, Allan said. Allan told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that demand for gold in the local market is currently modest, offset by some demand for bars and liras for savings purposes. Gold has closed its weekly trading sessions on the global market on Friday at a new historic high of $2722 per ounce, on the back of political tensions in the Middle East, as well as weak US economic data and global demand for gold.
