HRH Princess Dina Mired on Saturday sponsored the celebration held by the United Nations Office in Jordan marking the occasion of the United Nations Day, in the presence of Minister of Social Development Ayman Mufleh.

Addressing the ceremony, Her Highness lauded UN workers’ efforts to take into account the values of humanitarian principles and human rights.

In his speech, UN Resident Coordinator (RC) interim director in Jordan, Dominik Bartsch, said UN has “long-standing” relations with the Jordanian people, adding that today’s celebration is an opportunity to reaffirm UN’s commitment to maintain support to Jordan, provide assistance to the Kingdom’s most vulnerable people, and accelerate achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

UN, he said, will soon sign a new five-year cooperation framework with Jordan’s government, which would focus on inclusion, address related weaknesses and achieve sustainability.

The UN Office in Jordan held the celebration, with the participation of 18 UN resident agencies, in cooperation with GAM at an open day that featured an exhibition on these UN-affiliated organizations’ works, a bazaar to showcase products of beneficiaries of various UN programs and projects in Jordan, as well as interactive and educational activities and theatrical and artistic performances.

In addition, Jordanian artists Hassan Sabila and Rania Ismail presented a theatrical performance focusing on human rights issues.

United Nations Day, on 24 October, marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter.
