Amman: Princess Sumaya University for Technology honored Jordanian scientist Omar Hatamleh, who serves as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. During the event, Hatamleh delivered a lecture entitled "Transforming the Future," which was attended by University President Wejdan Abu Elhaija, members of the Deans' Council, faculty, and students.
According to Jordan News Agency, Hatamleh emphasized in his lecture that artificial intelligence is a transformative force impacting multiple facets of human life, from education and the economy to medicine and the labor market. He highlighted the significant advancements AI has brought to the medical sector, such as early diagnosis, supporting physicians with cutting-edge medical research, and enhancing the efficiency of healthcare systems.
Hatamleh also addressed the ethical challenges posed by the development of AI technologies, which he stated are more complex than the technological challenges. He underscored the necessity of establishing ethical frameworks that prioritize transparency, justice, privacy protection, and respect for human rights. He further stressed the importance of adaptability skills, critical thinking, and continuous learning in a world increasingly dominated by AI tools.
A panel discussion, moderated by Serin Atiani, a data scientist and systems neuroscientist at the university, followed the lecture. The panel focused on artificial intelligence and emerging technological research at NASA, the need for a shift in thinking patterns, and the importance of intellectual capabilities in a rapidly evolving world. Hatamleh shared insights on how Jordan can carve out a niche in the AI-driven technology market, encouraging students to pursue entrepreneurial projects with viable success prospects.

In recognition of his scientific contributions, Abu Elhaija presented Hatamleh with the university's shield.
