PSD Chief Orders New Services for Correctional Centers

Amman: Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director General Major General Obaidullah Ma'ayta emphasized the crucial role of correctional and rehabilitation centers in the criminal justice system, highlighting their importance in reforming inmates' character and facilitating their reintegration into society.

According to Jordan News Agency, the PSD Chief made these remarks during his visit to the Correctional and Rehabilitation Centers Administration, where he engaged with directors and assured them of continuous support. This includes equipping the centers with qualified personnel, advanced technical and logistical resources, and integrating modern technologies.

In a move to enhance services for inmates, Al-Ma'ayta announced the introduction of a money transfer service. This service will allow families to deposit funds for inmates up to a fixed monthly limit, eliminating the need for manual deposits. Furthermore, he initiated the expansion of visitation services by installing four video conferencing stations across the Kingdom's governorates in the first phase. These stations will enable families to maintain contact with inmates remotely, reducing the necessity for physical travel to the centers.

Additionally, Al-Ma'ayta called for comprehensive studies of the correctional system to build on successful initiatives, specifically pointing out the effective treatment of addicts within the centers. He acknowledged ongoing efforts to address overcrowding issues and complete expansion projects at correctional centers.

During his visit, the PSD Head was briefed on key development and reform plans, the progress made in improving inmate services, and efforts to strengthen partnerships with both national and international institutions to enhance correctional and rehabilitation work.
