Red Cross Warns of Malnourishment Crisis Impacting Humanitarian Efforts in Gaza

Gaza: The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has issued a warning that malnourishment among humanitarian workers is jeopardizing critical life-saving operations in Gaza.

According to Anadolu Agency, the IFRC's statement came after the IPC's formal announcement of famine in Gaza. The organization emphasized that its staff and volunteers are facing the same hunger challenges as the local population, risking their own wellbeing while striving to assist others. The statement highlighted that many humanitarian workers are surviving on just one meal a day, which severely affects their ability to perform their duties.

A staff member from the Palestine Red Crescent (PRCS) described the dire conditions, noting that people live in constant fear, with no differentiation between night and day, and the ever-present threat of death. The staff member shared the harsh reality of adapting to hunger, where food becomes a distant hope and families struggle to provide even basic sustenance for their children.

The IFRC has called for immediate international action to address the worsening situation and prevent further starvation. The organization stressed that the famine declaration is a direct appeal for urgent intervention, warning that any delays will result in more fatalities. The IFRC described the crisis as a man-made disaster and a failure of humanity, urging for prompt delivery of aid to Gaza.

The ongoing conflict has led to severe consequences, including multiple instances of famine and forced migrations. Since October 2023, Israel's offensive in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of over 63,000 Palestinians, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
