Moscow: Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov on Thursday said Moscow and Washington are moving closer to a potential meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, despite what he called 'mutual disappointments' in their bilateral relations.
According to Anadolu Agency, Ushakov expressed that both nations have experienced disappointments in their interactions. He stated, 'Yes, we probably disappoint them somewhere. They disappoint us too, perhaps even more than we disappoint them, and for a long time,' during an interview with Russian state-run broadcaster Rossiya 1 journalist Pavel Zarubin.
Ushakov further elaborated that although not all of Russia's proposals are accepted, the Trump administration 'understands Russia's demands and goals.' This understanding is seen as a positive step towards improving bilateral relations.
Despite the existing challenges, Ushakov acknowledged that bilateral efforts are ongoing and that both sides are making progress towards organizing a face-to-face meeting between Trump and Putin. Since the beginning of Trump's second term, the leaders have engaged in two phone calls, and high-level meetings have occurred in Saudi Arabia and Trkiye.
