Amman: Jordan, under His Majesty King Abdullah II’s leadership, is moving “steadily” to consolidate its democratic path and advance its national project to build a better future for coming generations by implementing the comprehensive political, economic and administrative modernization projects, Lower House Speaker, Ahmed Safadi, said.

Safadi, during his meeting on Sunday, with UN Women Representative in Jordan, Nicolas Burniat, said package of Jordan’s reforms and legislation approved by the Parliament and the parliamentary steps to support women’s rights, ” entirely” aim to enhance popular participation in decision-making.

Safadi also noted empowering and supporting women is a priority for the Lower House, which paved the way for ensuring “wider” participation and representation for women in Parliament by recently endorsing amendments on the election and party laws.

On women role and their empowerment in various fields, Safadi referred to the true political will expressed by His Majesty to support women’s empowerment and enhance youth’s role.

He said House expresses its “remarkable” interest and appreciation for role of United Nations bodies and their continuous support for the Kingdom.

The House, he said, is keen to institutionalize cooperation with international organizations and welcome any proposals, which primarily aim to serve the Kingdom’s higher national interest.

For his part, Burniat lauded the recent comprehensive amendments in the Kingdom political, economic or administrative fields.

He said United Nations is working in Jordan in cooperation with multiple relevant authorities to enhance women’s participation in various political, economic and social fields, in partnership with Inter-Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment, Jordanian National Commission For Women and a large number of concerned civil society institutions.
