The Senate Joint Legal and Freedoms and Citizens Rights Committee on Tuesday endorsed a draft amending the National Center for Human Rights (NCHR) law as passed by the Lower House.

The Legal Committee, headed by Senator Ahmad Tbeishat, and the Committee on Freedoms and Citizens’ Rights, headed by Senator Mahmoud Abu Juma’a, approved the bill during a meeting attended by Minister of State for Legal Affairs Wafaa Bani Mustafa.

The amendment took note of the importance of the roles entrusted to the NCHR Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Commissioner General and the need for their neutrality and fairness to all.

It is also meant to enshrine the principles of objectivity and nonpartisanism to preclude conflict of interests and the influences of partisan and ideological affiliation on the leadership of the center.
