Senate Speaker Engages in High-Level Talks with European Parliamentary Leader

Geneva: On Friday, Senate President Faisal Al-Fayez met in Geneva with Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting.

According to Jordan News Agency, a Senate statement highlighted that discussions at the international conference focused on promoting international peace, the role of parliamentarians in conflict resolution, development issues, and the advancement of democracy and human rights.

Al-Fayez and Rousopoulos also addressed bilateral parliamentary relations and explored strategies to strengthen and develop these ties.

The dialogue included a discussion on the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, as well as the current situation in the Middle East. Al-Fayez emphasized actions taken by His Majesty King Abdullah II to halt Israeli aggression and his persistent efforts to persuade the international community to alleviate the Israeli embargo on the Gaza Strip so that relief and humanitarian aid can reach the region. Al-Fayez described the situation in Gaza as a crime against humanity and a tragedy.

Jordan is a member of the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly, which is one of the legal bodies of the Council of Europe, an international organization dedicated to the promotion of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law. This assembly is responsible for the European Court of Human Rights, which holds plenary sessions in Strasbourg, France, four times a year.
