Shura Council Secretary General highlights AI initiatives in legislative work

Geneva, Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary General of the Shura Council, addressed the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly, discussing Bahrain's use of artificial intelligence (AI) in legislative work. Al Abbasi noted that Bahrain's use of AI reflects its commitment to technological innovation, supporting democratic progress, which aligns with the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. She also commended the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for adopting AI across key sectors such as education, health, transport, security, and digital infrastructure. She highlighted the Shura Council's early initiative to propose legislation regulating AI for peaceful purposes, ensuring public order and individual rights. The council also adopted cloud computing to enhance internal systems, including a centralised document database for legislative reports.
