Irbid: Authorities in Irbid evacuated six residential apartments near the Darawsheh traffic light in the city's eastern district over fears of a building collapse. A nearby multi-unit house was also evacuated to ensure the safety of its residents.
According to Jordan News Agency, Irbid Governor Radwan Al-Atoum stated that the evacuation decision followed visible signs of structural failure and documented images showing significant cracks in the building. The Public Safety Committee's action was based on preliminary reports indicating a real and imminent risk of collapse.
Al-Atoum mentioned that the National Building Committee had sent a structural engineering expert to conduct an on-site inspection. This assessment took place in the presence of Engineer Mahmoud Rababah, head of the Irbid branch of the Engineers Association, along with other specialists. The committee has not yet entered the building due to potential dangers, especially after reports of cracking sounds from within. A comprehensive engineering and technical report will be issued to determine the building's future and the fate of its residents.
Al-Atoum confirmed the safe evacuation of all residents, with no injuries reported. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will decide on further steps once the final report is complete. As a precaution, security forces have closed the main road after the Darawsheh intersection and surrounding streets leading to the nearby Al-Masa roundabout from the north and east, due to concerns over a potential collapse.
