Amman: The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply has confirmed robust barley stockpiles exceeding strategic safety thresholds with inventory levels sufficient to meet national consumption patterns for eight months, according to official spokesperson Yanal Barmawi.
According to Jordan News Agency, "Market supply channels are operating at full capacity with absolutely no distribution constraints," Barmawi stated, addressing concerns over perceived shortages reported by livestock producers. These shortages are linked to demand-side pressures caused by precipitation deficits and poor grazing conditions rather than supply-side limitations.
Barmawi detailed that standard allocation protocols distribute subsidized feed components, such as barley and wheat bran, through scheduled disbursement cycles via designated distribution hubs. The current market conditions have created pressure for single-phase allocations, which the ministry is carefully managing.
The ministry remains committed to equitable distribution frameworks, ensuring that all qualified livestock operations have access to subsidized agricultural inputs. Barmawi noted that moving to a single-disbursement model could cause logistical issues and disrupt synchronized distribution patterns.
To enhance operational efficiency, the spokesperson announced the implementation of an integrated digital transformation initiative for subsidy distribution. This new system will create an automated platform that allows for volume-specific requests within predetermined allocation parameters at designated distribution centers.
"This digital architecture provides real-time inventory management data, generating dynamic demand analytics for barley requirements and corresponding bran allocation metrics, facilitating precision logistics through the distribution network," Barmawi explained.
Once fully implemented, this improved distribution infrastructure will enable multi-channel access across all 51 national feed centers, removing the constraints of the current single-hub distribution system.
Currently, monthly distribution volumes maintain operational stability at 80-85 thousand metric tons for barley and 18-20 thousand tons for bran. Seasonal fluctuations are linked to wheat milling cycles, especially during Ramadan when bread consumption affects milling operations and subsequent bran availability.
