Amman:Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed disappointment over a new diesel agreement between the United States and Russia.
According to Anadolu Agency, Kristersson criticized the deal announced by US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, highlighting that energy revenues significantly fund Russia's military actions. He emphasized Sweden's support for Ukraine and urged increased pressure on Russia alongside enhanced aid for Ukraine.
He noted the European Union's upcoming sanctions package, which will target 1,600 entities associated with Russia's military industrial complex, as a positive contrast to the US-Russia agreement. Kristersson also called for international efforts to counteract the shadow fleet and utilize frozen Russian assets effectively.
The agreement followed a phone conversation between Trump and Putin, which Trump described as a 'highly successful discussion.' Trump announced that Russia would supply over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to US and global markets, with additional shipments planned for November and beyond, contingent on Russian refinery capabilities.
Putin stated that these diesel supplies would benefit the global economy, and mentioned that their conversation covered topics like the global energy sector, the Ukraine conflict, the situation in Iran, and US-Russia bilateral relations.
