Moscow:Russian President Vladimir Putin informed US President Donald Trump that Ukraine undermined the potential for resuming trilateral negotiations by attempting to disrupt Russia's parliamentary elections. This information was reported by the state news agency Tass, citing a senior Russian official.
According to Anadolu Agency, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov stated that Trump listened to Putin's position and would instruct that the relevant message be conveyed to the Ukrainian delegation, which is in Miami for meetings with US representatives. Ushakov accused Ukraine of launching a massive drone strike on Moscow and other cities during the elections, affecting polling stations and individuals involved in organizing the vote.
Putin reiterated that Moscow's objectives in its "special military operation" in Ukraine remain unchanged, emphasizing that Russian forces maintain the initiative on the battlefield. He expressed readiness for a political-diplomatic settlement aimed at achieving a long-term, sustainable peace. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov mentioned that during the talks on Ukraine, which dominated the leaders' call, Putin received certain US proposals aimed at de-escalating the war "with understanding."
In the same conversation, Putin addressed the US-Iran conflict, highlighting that diplomatic options remain viable and urged Washington to reach an agreement with Tehran. He suggested that Russia's proposal to take highly enriched Iranian uranium to its territory could help break the deadlock. Trump reportedly welcomed Moscow's involvement in this matter.
Additionally, Peskov noted that Putin conveyed Tehran's perspective on a possible resolution to the US-Iran conflict to Trump, in coordination with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Putin had discussed this perspective with Pezeshkian during meetings at a CIS leaders' summit in Turkmenistan.
The phone call between Putin and Trump, held on Friday, was described by Trump as a "highly successful discussion." Trump announced via his Truth Social platform that the talks led to an agreement for Russia to supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to US and global markets immediately, with further supplies planned for November and beyond, depending on the condition of Russian diesel refineries. Putin remarked that these discussions covered the global energy sector, prospects for resolving the Ukraine war, the situation in Iran, and bilateral relations.
