Prime Minister Bishr Khasawneh Sunday said in a Ramadan feast of the Department of Palestinian Affairs that establishing a Palestinian state has been a priority of in Jordan. “The Palestinian right to establish an independent Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the two-state solution, was, is, and will remain at the top of Jordan’s agenda under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II,” Khasawneh said. Al-Khasawneh reaffirmed, in his speech during the ceremony, which saw the participation of refugee camps’ representatives, that a settlement to the “Palestinian issue” is a priority and an international interest. He noted: “Without the end of the occupation, it would not be possible to realise peace and stability in the region, and what goes beyond it will have an impact on international peace and security.” He said that Jordan rejects attempts to change the reality and status quo at the Al Aqsa Mosque by Israeli authorities. He said: “This part of dear Palestine is a special and exclusive place of worship for Muslims, and any Israeli attempts to do otherwise is a condemned and rejected aggression, and we will not accept it in any way.” Khasawneh added that Israel had practised “all kinds of aggression and violations” against the Palestinians. He accused the Israeli authorities of attempting to change the historical and legal reality in occupied Jerusalem. He noted the “importance” of Jordan’s safeguarding, led by its King, of Islamic and Christian sanctities in occupied Jerusalem. Khasawneh said, “Sovereignty over East Jerusalem is Palestinian, and the custodianship of its Islamic and Christian holy sites has historically been Hashemite.”
