Amman: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Imad Hijazeen announced that his ministry has completed the survey and documentation of 34 Christian pilgrimage sites in Jordan. These sites have been classified as primary and secondary, aiming to promote them through specialized religious and tourism programs. This initiative seeks to bolster Jordan's position on the global religious tourism map.
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry is set to launch an online platform dedicated to the Baptism Site. This platform will provide data and services to visitors participating in religious pilgrimage programs in Jordan, offering access to information about the site and related services. The minister highlighted Jordan's diverse religious tourism offerings, which include internationally recognized Christian pilgrimage and Islamic heritage sites. These sites feature the shrines of the Prophet's companions and the Cave of the Seven Sleepers, contributing to Jordan's reputation as a unique religious and historical destination in the region.
Hijazeen further stated that the Tourism Ministry has initiated specialized training programs for tour guides. These programs focus on Christian religious tourism and Islamic heritage sites and are conducted in cooperation with the Jordan Tour Guides Association.
