Transport Minister Explores Social Security Coverage for Ride-Hail Drivers

Amman: Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin and Social Security Corporation Director General Hazim Rahahleh discussed on Thursday expanding social security coverage to ride-hail drivers to boost social protection and safeguard workers' rights under national regulations. Qatamin emphasized the significance of providing social security coverage for workers in app-based transportation services, highlighting them as an essential part of the Kingdom's modern transportation system. He advocated for creating a framework that addresses gig work while ensuring adequate social protection for workers.

According to Jordan News Agency, in a separate meeting with Madhu Kannan, Uber's Chief Business Officer, Qatamin and Land Transport Regulatory Commission Director General Riyad Kharabsheh reviewed mechanisms to enroll Uber drivers in the social security system. Uber expressed its commitment to collaborating with regulators to explore viable frameworks aimed at enhancing social safety nets for gig workers and supporting the modernization of the sector.
