Amman: Minister of Transport Wissam Tahtamouni on Sunday inspected the final preparations for the official launch of the Irbid-Amman and Jerash-Amman bus lines, part of the first phase of the inter-governorate public transport project connecting the capital with key regional centers.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Irbid-Amman service was launched along two main routes: one from the Northern Complex via Jordan Street, and another from Irbid-Sweileh to the University of Jordan. All buses are equipped with GPS tracking systems and automated fare collection to ensure compliance with fixed schedules and service standards.

The inspection visit focused on evaluating the technical and operational readiness of the lines, including the condition of buses and the services associated with the project. Tahtamouni emphasized the importance of upholding the highest standards of efficiency, reliability, and transparency in public transport operations. She noted that publishing accurate information on schedules, bus stops, and frequencies plays a key role in improving public confidence and user experience.

Tahtamouni met with Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) Riyad Kharabsheh, Chairman of the Board of the Integrated Multi-Transport Company Salah Louzi, and the company's General Manager Mu'ayyad Abu Fardeh, to review operational mechanisms and the use of supervisory systems to ensure reliable service delivery.

Abu Fardeh gave a comprehensive briefing on the operational status of the Irbid line and the ongoing rollout of the Jerash-Amman route, which is also part of the current implementation phase.

Full-scale operation of the two lines is expected between July and August, following the completion of the trial period and confirmation of system stability and infrastructure readiness.

The intercity bus initiative is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Transport, the LTRC, and the Greater Amman Municipality. It seeks to create a modern, efficient, and monitored public transport network connecting Amman with Irbid, Jerash, Salt, and Karak. The Salt-Amman and Karak-Amman routes will be launched in a later stage once all required systems and buses are in place.

The project forms part of a broader five-year national plan to transform Jordan's public transport sector, offering safe, integrated, and reliable mobility solutions across governorates to meet citizens' growing transportation needs.
