Ankara: Trkiye will not tolerate provocations, coercion, or maritime threats in the Eastern Mediterranean, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared in a New Year's message. The statement, shared by the Presidency, underscored Ankara's vigilance over rising challenges to Trkiye's interests and those of the Turkish Cypriot community in the region.
According to Anadolu Agency, President Erdogan highlighted the nation's resilience in the face of regional instability, emphasizing Trkiye's ongoing economic progress. He noted that the country is witnessing positive outcomes from its economic strategies, with advancements in disinflation, Central Bank reserves, and growth in production, investment, employment, and exports. Erdogan also mentioned a significant social housing initiative aimed at assisting low-income citizens and alleviating housing costs.
Erdogan addressed the government's commitment to recovery efforts following the February 2023 earthquakes, describing it as a top priority. He reported the handover of the 455,000th earthquake housing unit in Hatay, praising the collaborative reconstruction efforts and urging critics to witness the recovery firsthand.
Highlighting regional solidarity, Erdogan reaffirmed Trkiye's dedication to supporting not only its citizens but also neighboring countries, particularly Syria and Gaza. He mentioned accelerated recovery and political progress in Syria post-revolution and noted the voluntary return of 600,000 Syrians from Trkiye.
Erdogan expressed Trkiye's determination to hold accountable those responsible for Palestinian casualties in Gaza and outlined Ankara's diplomatic efforts to ensure Israeli compliance with ceasefire terms. He also reiterated Trkiye's commitment to facilitating peace in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
