Trump Signs Executive Order to Evaluate Muslim Brotherhood Chapters as Terrorist Entities

Washington: US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the State and Treasury departments to consider designating certain chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood as "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" (FTOs) and "Specially Designated Global Terrorists" (SDGTs), the White House announced.

According to TRTworld.com, the order tasks the two agencies, in consultation with the attorney general and the director of national intelligence, to assess chapters in countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan. They are required to submit a report and, if deemed appropriate, to act within 45 days to formally designate the groups.

The White House stated that the initiative aims to curb the operational capabilities of these chapters, cut off their financial resources, and address potential threats they may pose to US nationals and national security. Currently, the US has not designated the Muslim Brotherhood as a "terrorist" organization, and it is absent from the State Department's list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
