Amman:The United Kingdom has announced a £2.85 million contribution to UNICEF to support education for refugee and vulnerable children in Jordan over a three-year period, from October 2026 through August 2029.
According to Jordan News Agency, the funding will aid approximately 20,000 refugee children in Azraq, Zaatari, and Gardens camps by providing safe and inclusive education services. This includes strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy through a nationally led remedial education system and establishing an early warning system to identify and support children at risk of dropping out of school.
The funding will also enhance learning environments with water and sanitation facilities, and offer child protection and psychosocial support services. Additionally, it aims to develop a remedial education model based on evidence from UNICEF's existing programs and adapt learning materials, teacher training programs, and assessment tools for children with disabilities and learning difficulties.
UNICEF Representative to Jordan, Marc Rubin, emphasized the importance of education beyond access, highlighting the need for children to learn and remain in school. He expressed gratitude to the UK for investing in long-term solutions to improve education for vulnerable children. British Ambassador to Jordan, Philip Hall, affirmed the UK's commitment to supporting education in Jordan and stated that the extended program aligns with Jordan's education reform plans and strategies.
