London: British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has warned that the UK could impose additional sanctions on Israel if a ceasefire is not reached in Gaza within the coming weeks.

According to Jordan News Agency, Lammy told the UK Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee that the ongoing situation is "untenable." He emphasized the urgency of negotiating a ceasefire to prevent further escalation in the region.

Lammy also addressed the topic of Britain's potential recognition of a Palestinian state. He declined to set a specific timeline for such recognition, noting that it "requires a careful judgment based on realities on the ground" and indicating that the decision would be driven by developments in the region.

The UK government has recently taken action by sanctioning two far-right Israeli ministers due to human rights violations. These sanctions underscore the UK's stance on human rights issues and its willingness to respond to international developments that it deems unacceptable.
