Umniah Plans JD300m Push Into 5G, Fiber and Data-Center Expansion

Amman: Umniah CEO Faisal Al-Jalahma announced the company's plan to invest approximately JD300 million over the next five years, focusing on expanding its 5G and fiber-optic networks, upgrading data-center capacity, and accelerating cloud-service offerings. According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Jalahma emphasized the company's dedication, alongside its parent group, to bolstering Jordan's digital infrastructure. Over the past two years, Umniah has concentrated on expanding its fiber network across various governorates, advancing 5G deployment, and launching new data-center and cloud projects. This includes establishing a fiber link between Amman and Aqaba to enhance internet services both domestically and internationally. Al-Jalahma highlighted that the company's recent rebranding under the "Beyond" group signifies a strategic commitment to leveraging the group's expertise in the Jordanian market, reflecting confidence in the country's potential for digital growth. He described Jordan's telecommunications se ctor as highly dynamic, driven by rapid shifts in user demand and increasing adoption of advanced services. The expanding 5G customer base underscores the necessity for continued investment in network capacity, particularly in 5G towers and fiber infrastructure. The CEO identified growth areas such as cloud computing, data security, and the Internet of Things as key differentiators in a competitive market where pricing alone no longer suffices. Al-Jalahma noted that digital transformation presents both challenges and opportunities for national growth, emphasizing the role of digital infrastructure in supporting sectors like education, health, and government services. Umniah has invested significantly in these areas, connecting approximately 3,500 schools serving 1.5 million students. He also mentioned Umniah's partnerships with major global companies to enhance hosting, security, and infrastructure capabilities. In 2024, the company began constructing what will be Jordan's largest data center and a leading facility in the region. Umniah's collaboration with Microsoft on cloud and AI solutions further highlights its commitment to being a full-service technology provider, broadening customer options across telecom, internet, and digital services. Al-Jalahma pointed out the increasing government support for digitization and investment-friendly reforms, including the early rollout of 5G under the Economic Modernization Vision. He praised Jordan's skilled telecom workforce for providing a competitive edge and facilitating rapid execution of digital projects. In terms of social responsibility, Al-Jalahma reaffirmed Umniah's commitment beyond financial support and sports sponsorships. The company partners with national institutions to train youth in cybersecurity and technology. Through its "Opportunity" initiative, Umniah has renovated playgrounds and school yards in underserved areas, benefiting 24 schools with approximately 16,000 students. These efforts have earned the company awards in corporate social responsi bility, while sustainability initiatives, such as clean-energy solutions for network towers, reflect its broader environmental commitments.
