UN Hails ICJ Advisory Opinion on Israel’s Obligations in Occupied Palestine

Amman: On Wednesday stressed the significance of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion, which calls for Israel to facilitate humanitarian relief and ensure the protection of UN personnel in the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to Jordan News Agency, the UN expressed hope that Israel will comply with the ruling, noting that the decision comes at a time when the organization is doing everything it can to strengthen humanitarian assistance in Gaza.

In a statement, the UN highlighted the impact of this ruling as crucial for enabling adequate response to the conditions facing Gaza's residents.

The ICJ issued the advisory opinion, affirming that Israel is obligated under international human rights law to respect, protect, and uphold the human rights of the population in the occupied territories. This includes the presence and activities of the United Nations and necessitates cooperation in good faith, providing all necessary assistance in any measures undertaken under the UN Charter.
