UNRWA Chief Urges Ceasefire in Gaza.

Gaza: The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, Sunday urged a ceasefire in Gaza "instead of focusing on banning the agency." According to Jordan News Agency, Lazzarini wrote on X that dismantling UNRWA in the absence of a viable alternative would deprive Palestinian children of learning, adding that children are losing a second year of education. More than 300,000 children had received education at UNRWA schools in Gaza before the start of the war in October 2023, he added. He highlighted that nearly 50,000 Palestinian children receive education in the Agency's schools in the occupied West Bank, noting that UNRWA is the only agency that provides education directly in UN schools.
