Water Ministry Responds to Misleading Reports on National Water Carrier Project

Amman: The Ministry of Water and Irrigation has reaffirmed the strategic importance of the National Water Carrier Project, describing it as a long-term national investment essential to strengthening Jordan's water independence and economic resilience, while responding to what it said were misleading reports regarding the project's cost and implementation.

According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry issued a statement on Sunday clarifying that the suspension of the Red Sea-Dead Sea Conveyance Project for political reasons led the government to seek an independent national alternative to ensure sustainable water supplies.

The statement detailed that the National Water Carrier Project, initially planned in 2016, was designed as a pipeline with an annual capacity of 100 million cubic meters. This capacity was incrementally expanded to 150 million cubic meters and eventually to 300 million cubic meters to address the country's escalating water demands.
