Rome: Dr. Loay Al-Husainat, a faculty member at Yarmouk University’s College of Medicine, has been awarded the Best Research Abstract of the Year at the “Roma Pain Days 2025” conference, an international gathering of pain management specialists held in Rome, Italy.

According to Jordan News Agency, Al-Husainat’s winning submission, titled “Therapeutic Potential and Challenges of Cannabis Use in the Management of Non-Cancer Chronic Pain: A Comprehensive Review”, was recognized for its critical examination of current scientific evidence surrounding the medical use of cannabis.

The study explores its effectiveness in managing chronic pain unrelated to cancer, with a focus on potential benefits, biological mechanisms, side effects, and regulatory and clinical challenges.

In addition to presenting his work, Al-Husainat chaired a scientific session during the conference dedicated to treatment approaches for pain syndromes. The session included expert discussions on emerging therapeutic methods, case studies from clinical practice, and new perspectives on the future of pain management.

Al-Husainat described the award as a validation of the scientific importance of his research and a reflection of the international recognition Yarmouk University’s faculty continues to receive. He also expressed appreciation for the institutional support that has enabled researchers to contribute to global medical discourse and highlight the university’s academic strengths.
