Amman: Irbid's Yarmouk Water Company has temporarily suspended water supply to several areas in the districts of Ramtha and Kufranja following accidental damage to main pipelines by contractors during infrastructure excavation work.
According to Jordan News Agency, the state-owned utility announced that its technical crews are working tirelessly to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore water services as swiftly as possible. In Ramtha, a key transmission line was compromised during site excavations by an external contractor, necessitating an emergency shutdown to prevent additional system damage. This disruption has impacted the areas of Dabbat Nimr and parts of the northern district.
In Kufranja, the excavation work related to the widening of the Wadi Al-Tawahin road resulted in breaches of two separate main lines, measuring 300 mm and 125 mm in diameter. The repair teams have isolated the damaged pipes to reduce water loss and are conducting repairs under official oversight.
Yarmouk Water Company has stated its intent to pursue all necessary legal and administrative actions against the responsible contractors in line with existing regulations. These actions will include holding the third parties financially accountable for the cost of wasted water and any resulting network damages. The utility has apologized to residents in the affected regions for the disruption in service and advised customers to direct inquiries or complaints to the unified national call center.
