Zelenskyy Congratulates Pope Leo XIV, Urges Vatican’s Continued Support for Ukraine

Vatican City: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Pope Leo XIV on his election and called for the Vatican's continued support in Ukraine's struggle against Russian 'aggression.'

According to Anadolu Agency, Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine's appreciation for the Holy See's consistent stance on upholding international law, condemning Russia's military actions against Ukraine, and protecting the rights of civilians. He expressed hope for ongoing moral and spiritual support from the Vatican, noting the significance of the current moment for Ukraine's future.

Zelenskyy extended his wishes to the newly elected pope for wisdom, inspiration, and strength, both spiritually and physically, in fulfilling his mission. He concluded his message with the Latin blessing "Ad multos annos!" which means "For many years."

The Vatican has taken on a mediating role in addressing humanitarian issues related to the war in Ukraine and has consistently advocated for peace.
