Seventh EMPHNET Regional Conference launched

Under the patronage of HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein, the Seventh Regional Conference of the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) was launched under the theme “Towards Public Health Resilience in the Eastern Mediterranean: Breaking Barriers”.

The conference was held on Sunday evening with the participation of around 300 participants representing 15 Arab and foreign countries.

Delegate of HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein, Yassin Husban, Chairman of the Health, Environment and Population Committee of the Senate, said that humanity has coexisted over the past period with an epidemic that has disrupted the world normal, caused many deaths, and left long lasting scars in the hearts and minds of human beings.

He said that flexible and robust health systems contribute to the provision of high-quality health services without prejudice or discrimination.

Husban also pointed out that Jordan works within this strategic framework, where the Jordanian health strategy emphasized the provision of necessary health services for all citizens.

Universal health coverage is also one of this strategic framework’s and one of its most important current and future axes, which reflects interest of the top leadership of the Jordanian state, he said.

Husban called on those concerned in the field of strategic health planning in the EMR to adopt the framework of universal health coverage, and to exchange experiences and learn from experiences of other countries in this area.

He also pointed out that Jordan will not spare any chance in providing its expertise wherever necessary. This stems from Jordan’s concern for the importance of joint constructive work at the regional level to improve the level of health systems, maintain outstanding achievements and the need to depart from the crucible of theoretical work to the open space of field and practical work, he said.

Husban conveyed greetings of the patron of the ceremony, HRH Princess Muna Al Hussein, and her great interest in the conference, believing in the absolute importance of continuing to share and exchange experiences between countries in the region.

Mohannad Nsour, President of the conference and Executive Director of EMPHNET, said that the conference’s agenda includes around 113 presentations from residents and graduates of the Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs), around 10 sessions and six workshops.

Speakers in these activities will include a group of epidemiologists, notably the Honorary Regional Director of the World Health Organisation, the Director of UNRWA’s Department of Health, the Director of the Department of Preparedness and Emerging Diseases at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Director of Program Management in the WHO Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean and the Head of Public Health Faculty, Medicine Imperial College London-UK.

Some 85 Jewish extremist settlers early Monday stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque / Haram Al Sharif compound in occupied East Jerusalem.

A statement by the Islamic Awqaf Department in Jerusalem said that the dozens of the radical settlers carried out today’s raids from Al-Magharebah Gate in groups under heavy protection of Israeli special police, and provocatively toured the mosque’s yards.

The occupation police imposed tight restrictions on the entry of Muslim worshipers to Al-Aqsa, and seized their ID cards in order to secure the settlers’ storming.
